Congratulations to our Samworth Brothers Charity Challenge teams who have raised a massive £215,000 for charity across two tough weekend events.

67 teams from Samworth Brothers businesses, customers and suppliers signed up for one of two triathlon style events in Wales, with all weather conditions braved over the two weekends from heavy rain to dazzling sun.

The £215,000 total takes the total raised by Samworth Brothers Charity Challenge events since 2007 to £2.4 million. All teams pledged to raise more than £2,000 for a good cause close to their heart ,with more than 50 charities benefitting.

Donations of £50,000 went to local community organisations, close to the event. At a celebration evening at the Merthyr Tydfil All Saints Football Club, where the Challenge was based, the Samworth Brothers Challenge team presented four local Wales charities with awards.

The Gellideg Foundation in Merthyr Tydfil received an award of £20,000 to help their community work in a deprived area of Merthyr, where they are focused on supporting families and empowering individuals to better achieve their potential.

Safer Merthyr Tydfil also received a donation of £20,000 to help the charity support the prevention of domestic abuse and improvement of life chances in the local areas in which it operates.

Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team and Merthyr Saints Football Club also both received a £5,000 donation for their support of the Challenge.

Top team fundraisers across the two weekends were 2 Sandwiches Short of a Picnic team from Melton Foods, who raised a massive £10,131.61 to be shared between Bowel Cancer UK and the Leicestershire Down Syndrome Group, and the Nothing Wasted team from PH Hull Ltd, who raised £5,371 for the Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland Air Ambulance. Both teams received an additional £1,000 for their chosen charity to mark their effort as top fund raisers.

Charity Challenge co-ordinator Paula Shaw said; “It was a tremendous effort by all the teams, both in terms of the physical challenges of the day and the charity fundraising. We always have such a great response to the event from Samworth Brothers colleagues and businesses but also many of our customers and suppliers get involved. Thank you to everyone.”
