Samworth Brothers is a family business, manufacturing high quality chilled and ambient food enjoyed by millions of people.
Since 1896
At Samworth Brothers, we are determined to build a food company that does the right things. For four generations we have been committed to responsible action and as a fully independent and family-owned business, we have the freedom to act in the best interests of all, and do things a little differently when we believe we need to.
We Care
As a family business, we encourage a culture that is welcoming, caring and has the best interests of people at its heart.
We are proud of the range of benefits our colleagues can access, including a healthcare scheme, subsidised staff restaurants, a staff discount programme and award-winning training and careers opportunities.
Everyone is welcome at Samworth Brothers. Our people represent more than 100 nationalities, and our commitment to diversity and inclusion ensures that every colleague’s voice can be heard.
In the community, we show we care through action. We donate 1% of our profit to charitable causes each year and we have donated close to £5 million to charities through fundraising. We also donate food to those who need our help – in 2023 we distributed surplus food to the equivalent of 2.7 million meals.
We are
experts
Our 125-year heritage gives us vast expertise to draw upon, and our independence means we can do things our way. We choose to structure our business around the types of products we make, with expert chefs, commercial teams and bakeries dedicated to every single product category. This focus means we support our customers by bringing market-leading know-how to the table.
Alongside the products we make specifically for our retailer customers, we also own a portfolio of leading and much-loved brands. This means we understand not just how to manufacture products, but also how to market them to consumers.
Uniquely in the UK food production industry, we have our own distribution business, Samworth Brothers Supply Chain, which is the fourth-largest chilled distributor in the UK. This gives us greater control and ensures our products are at the best possible quality when they arrive at their destination.
We think
long-term
Our family ownership means we can make long-term decisions without being restricted by short-term targets. As we look to the future we continuously invest in our existing and new businesses.
Investments are being made throughout Samworth Brothers to improve performance and efficiency, and develop new business. In 2023 we committed £75 million of spending on projects, bringing the total over the past six years to more than £280 million. We increased the capacity and capabilities of our Meals businesses, added new technologies at our Walkers Deli & Sausage Co. bakery, and invested to further upgrade facilities in The Cornwall Bakery.
We are also investing in modernisation, introducing new technology in our bakeries as part of our ongoing Manufacturing Excellence programme.
Through our investment fund, Perfect Redd, we support exciting food start-ups that we believe have the potential to make a positive impact. In recent years we have invested in Jelly Drops, an innovative water-based sweet that boosts hydration for people with dementia, and Urban Legend, a brand of doughnuts with an indulgent taste while being significantly lower than others in sugar, saturated fat and calories.
