Samworth Brothers has joined other leading food businesses to pledge support for the Coronation Food Project, launched this week by His Majesty the King.   https://fareshare.org.uk/coronation/

The Project intends to provide even more food to support the 13 million people in the UK experiencing food insecurity by targeting all forms of waste in the food supply chain and building on the food industry’s existing initiatives to redistribute surplus food to charities.

Samworth Brothers Chief Executive Hugo Mahoney joined the launch of the project, attended by His Majesty the King, in Oxfordshire earlier this week.

Commenting on Samworth Brothers commitment to the project Hugo Mahoney said;

“We are delighted to join other food industry leaders and pledge our support for the Coronation Food Project.  Decreasing food waste and making good use of surplus food have already been major priorities for us for many years.  In 2022 our primary UK production sites provided surplus food volume equivalent to over 2.6 million meals to food redistribution charities, a 24% year-on-year increase from 2021 but there is still much to be done.  The Coronation Food Project gets to the heart of the issue – no one business can achieve real change by themselves.  The Coronation Food Project seeks to deliver a more joined up approach across the industry.  We applaud this initiative and look forward to helping the project to success.”

Andy Wright, Samworth Brothers Responsible Business Director, commenting on the project programme said;

“Samworth Brothers will be working in partnership with others in the food industry to identify areas where we can work together better on this topic; to reduce all forms of waste in the food supply chain, to repurpose surplus and increase the amount of food that is redistributed to those in need. We’ve a lot of activity in this area already.  The Coronation Project will elevate this issue further and help collaboration in all parts of the food supply chain.”
